My boss had me scheduled to work Christmas even though I worked a double shift during Thanksgiving and just said “You should have asked off sooner if you wanted off.” And when I argued and said I'd have to put in my two weeks then, her exact words were: “If you put your two weeks in to get off for the holidays, today may as well be your last day.”
Against my better judgement I let myself be bullied into staying. Two days before Christmas eve, my parents were stuck in Chicago on a business trip and my sister and her husband were stuck in an airport in Seattle after visiting my mom's parents which left my 15 year old brother at home with my 90 year old grandparents. My Grandma fell and broke her hip and I was literally the only one who could go home to help.
After explaining this to my boss in an email, she responded with an email with my final paycheck. Lady was an awful manager, and honestly, doggy daycare places lose staff because so many managers are just like her.
