I work abroad in a country which requires specific official documentation and qualifications to work in the job that I do. I have all of these documents and have had them notarised and authenticated by the necessary people. When I got stuck outside the country in 2020 when flights were stopped because of covid, my company helped me remove all my stuff from my apartment and clear it out. This included all of my important documents, which I had kept in one particular spot so as to keep them safe.
When I returned to this country and company after the borders opened, I got my things back and noticed my official documents were nowhere to be found. I chased it up with my boss, with the girl who cleared out my apartment and with my old landlord but they never turned up. Fast forward two years and a bit and now there is a new lady in HR and I plan to move out of this country and away from this company to do some further study.
The new lady in HR came to me today, gave me ALL of my missing documents, and told me they were in the company CEO’s locker, which she is clearing out because he recently got involved in a big scandal and has been removed from his position.
This means, not only did the HR lady lie to me, but likely also my boss, and the CEO who I had had a fairly convivial professional relationship with.
I’m furious. The CEO had my documents because it meant I wouldn’t be able to work elsewhere in this country and meant I was forced to continue to work here. What. The. Fuck.
