Crossposting this to the other sub as well. Capitalism in a nutshell. If you can sell a good or service for higher than you got it, you win. The price of things will go higher with every middleman in the supply chain. I'm not asking for a revolution – though I believe one is coming and it can't come fast enough. It goes without saying that the system is fucked, that's why spaces like this exist. What I'm asking, for owners and employers at small and big businesses alike, is how can we survive in the current system without selling our souls and becoming part of the problem? Can't change the system if we can't survive in it.
I’m just paranoid apparently
I had to call in sick for my shift and anyone who knows me knows I don’t do that unless it’s very necessary. I was progressively feeling worse and worse with classic COVID symptoms so I took a RAT (got a PCR later). It was negative but I felt I had to call in sick anyways. I gave hours of time in advance, more than needed. Of course my boss is being covered by someone much younger than myself. Paraphrasing; Me: Hey (fill in), I’m sorry but I have to call in sick for tonight Fill: why? Me: unfortunately I’m feeling very unwell, flu and COVID symptoms. So far I have a negative RAT but.. Fill: you’re paranoid? Me: No I just know I won’t be able to do my job while I’m feeling this sick Fill: oh well everybody else is but ok I don’t know how many times…
Employee Retention Credits
Title says all. I sent her the letter (sent a link through text to a Google doc I typed out) about an hour after a closing shift at Dollar General, and she straight up never responded to me at all. I'm honestly just wondering if I'll get my last paycheck…
I currently work for the railroad. I am a union employee. I am taking some time coming up for birthday that I have had in the vacation calendar since the begging of the year and have informed my foreman and managers of this and reminded them several times. In my shop there are only 2 people above me on the seniority roster. Today, ON MY OFF DUTY TIME, I get a call from my manager. Usually means that something massive broke and it’s all hands on deck if available. He calls me to ask if I’d be willing to go OFF my vacation time for Saturday coverage so a lower seniority person can take the weekend off, and then go back on vacation for the rest of my scheduled time off. I sat there flabbergasted that he even called and was actually speechless. He asked if I was there, and…
Simpsons did it, again
S33 E22 “Poorhouse Rock”. The Simpsons just dropped the most iconic anti capitalism song that there ever was. This song ends with them saying to “Burn It Down”. If you haven't watched it I highly suggest it, and if you have, what are your opinions.
What's the funniest/craziest thing that happened on night shift that you and you're crewmates had? Mine was the sandwich maker of my wendys for the night jumping in the tumbling sink and then getting out, changing most clothes and putting the bra in oven “to dry” It got so much better when the closest co2 sensor went off, the first step before the spray foam on the fryers and grill and make them unusable for 24 hours roughly(depending how fast you cleaned lol
Part 3 of walking out my job
I have multiple missed calls. Bro it’s just carts whatever, it’s the customers responsibility now to re rack them, not anymore me. Ok bruh, yeah the job wasn’t hard, but I just felt like not doing it no more, I wanna work at the UNIONIZED store next door, and they’re filled with individuals my age and lgbtq friendly. (Very) Anyways, hope my store dosent snitch, then again; imma inform them about the unsafe working conditions that encouraged me to leave. It’s fine, I’m fine, it’s whatever. Yea I’m self destructive, yes I’m okay, no I didn’t kill anyone. Good look store, you weren’t too bad compared to what I’ve experienced, but, Duty calls, and it’s calling for me to take control.
Same Low Pay after 17 yrs
A company I worked at from 2000-2005 in NY moved operations to North Carolina in 2005 to save money. Some people moved and the others like me lost their jobs. At the time in 2005 I was making around 55-60k. A few days ago same company sees my Indeed profile and offers me the same job, 17 yrs later, as a remote position since they're now based in North Carolina, for 55k. 17 years later their still paying the same starting salary. Funny how inflation effects everything except wages.
