I hit the ground running at my new job 4 months ago, as a result, I have more work and more expectations. When I fail, it gets highlighted to extreme degrees. On the other side of the spectrum my successes and contributions are looked over. My bosses boss brings me into the office today and says I’m not doing my job correctly, but I am doing everything they ask of me and then some. I explained it, and they said well “the perception is not good and perception is reality”
Someone got tired at Gamestop today
I quit my job today because my employer decided to mandate that everyone return to the office. We have been fully remote since the start of COVID and no real explanation for why we had to go back in was provided. I asked but was flat out told that no exceptions would be made. I wrote this letter/essay about making a case for remote work and attached it as part of my resignation. I'm sure it will just be tossed into the trash without a second thought but I thought at least you all might appreciate it. “To whom it may concern: I hope [company] will reconsider its Return to Office requirements for both the well-being of its employees and the future of the company. Prior to COVID, there were justifiable reasons not to allow employees to work from home, namely the expense of providing equipment and concerns about the…
About to turn 40. I guess I'm considered an old millennial. So, Reagan in the 80's – that fucked the middle class and is still going strong as far as taxing the the middle class, which is now the norm leading to the rich getting richer, so no great infrastructure, minimum wage being the same since I started a “real job” other than when I worked with migrant Mexicans at $3.50hr(they were awesome people), two great depressions, ( fight me on semantics for this, it's killing the working class), a world wide pandemic that's killed millions of people, and now folks are being encouraged to trade wfh so assholes can keep their commercial real estate and putting workers in danger, AGAIN with no sort of bonus, or real compensation. $30hr min wage. I'll picket with you all. I'm doing ok, but barley. It feels like there is a movement, but…
Not everyone deserves a living wage
My dad said that to me, someone who doesn’t make a living wage. Told him maybe they shouldn’t be in business if they can’t, He said maybe I shouldn’t work for them, I said maybe he should start growing his own food because all the grocery stores are closed (I work at one) He was silent. He didn’t get it but had no retort.
Trying to get a better raise
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I work at Restoration Hardware, I’ve been there for almost a year and just had my review. The review was good, the raise was not. Given everything that’s happened this year, I’m functional make less now than I was when I started even including the raise. I emailed HR and told them that this was unacceptable. Long story short, I have a meeting with my manager, HR, and the head of our facility tomorrow at 4 pm and any advice for getting fairer compensation would be welcome.
My Job Isnt Respecting My Hour Requests
I love this job, the people are nice and the dogs are great (pet hotel), but it's very demanding to my mental and physical health. I put in the request earlier on to only have three days a week, I very much value my personal time and need that time to recouperate each day. They recently scheduled me for five days, and then did it a second time for next week. I don't know how to handle this, it feels like they aren't listening when I say I NEED limited days due to my emotional and physical health. Separately, I find it odd that they only release the schedules the day before they are put into use. My old job released schedules two weeks ahead of time, is this normal?
Remembering that time…
… when I was told that I couldn’t be promoted ahead of “schedule”. And then my colleague who started 6 months after me got promoted at the same time as me. Same job that advertised starting analysts as “supervising” if enrolled in a PhD program. I was. Did not start as a “supervising analyst.” This was 10 years ago and now I’m angry again. Otoh, I left an absolutely brutal exit interview, which leaves a good taste in the mouth.
