Bf was just fired on his last day of probation

Long time lurker here but first time posting. I hope no one minds a small rant! Today is his last day of probation in the legal department of a collection agency and just got off a zoom call with his manager who fired him. She claimed it was due to downsizing of the company. We’re not sure if we believe the story because last week he received an email regarding internal job opportunities and his exact job title/description was one of them. I personally just feel horrible because I’ve been trying to convince him for about a week now that he wouldn’t get fired and his manager wouldn’t wait until the last day of probation to fire him if it happened. But I guess I was wrong. I’m trying to find the silver lining here in that he knew the job wasn’t for him and it was really draining on…

I lasted 6 months in retail, It’s honestly depressing. The amount of bullshit you have to put up with is insane..

My first job was at Food4less.. The amount of secret shoppers on your ass and district managers showing up out of nowhere that just look like regular customers is absurd. I just tell them to fuck off (Seriously). The boss eventually got sick of my shit and said I was a bad employee but I never got fired (The union investigates first), Though I quit before it got to that point. Despite the crap, My biggest regret is paying the $400 union fee only to quit two weeks later. This was also 4 years ago, I just got reminded of my shitty retail experience when I went to go buy Ice Cream at Rite Aid yesterday and how depressing the environment was. The two cashiers said they don't do Ice Cream service and had to call someone in to which a lady from the break room comes out yelling saying…

In A Pickle

I've got myself in a bit of a situation that I regret. It's very complicated (as most things are in my industry) but I resigned from my employer in January with a 30 day notice, but they decided to make it effective immediately. So be it. Following the months after, I was reached out by my previous employer “where can we find this” and “where can we find that”. I had worked at that employer for many years and built everything from the bottom up and since I was resigned immediately, I didn't have the time to get my documentation organized. Fast forward to last week and the CEO calls me asking me to come back. I went in and met him and reluctantly accepted despite having already started a new job that week which was somewhat higher pay and mostly work from home. Why did I do this? I…

Seriously, fuck these kind of managers

Read this article and it expresses so clearly the type of bullshit oldschool managers that I can't wait they retire. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/04/05/ex-google-ceo-eric-schmidt-on-why-people-should-return-to-the-office.html After more than two years of remote work and multiple return-to-office delays, most Google employees are heading back to the office at least part-time — and ex-Google CEO and chairman Eric Schmidt couldn’t be happier about it. ″[I]t’s important that these people be at the office, in my view,” Schmidt, 66, tells CNBC Make It, arguing that for decades, the in-office style has been proven effective. “I’m a traditionalist.” Starting Monday, Google’s hybrid work arrangement kicked off, with most employees expected to be in the office at least three days per week. Schmidt, who served as Google’s CEO from 2001 to 2011, helped transform the then-young Silicon Valley start-up into today’s $1.9 trillion global tech behemoth — and credits in-office work for much of that growth. “We spent decades…

Bad Yearly Review

Last year’s review said that I “exceeded expectations” and I got promoted to a senior level because I started training all new employees to my group. This year I got “need improvement” because I have “no interpersonal skills, no leadership skills, and am unprofessional “. I never received a single email in the last 12 months regarding my newly lacking skills. In fact, I’ve voiced frustration and concern to my boss that I’m having trouble training the 2 newest people. In 12 months I went from being lauded as a great mentor to being told I’m unprofessional. I’m so fucking mad. And crying. I was never given training on how to train people. Ever. I’ve asked for leadership training tools and was never even responded to. I’ve spent the last two years training 8 new people, several who just don’t seem to get it . I feel like I’m being…

Customer service workers: how can we improve your day when we become your customer?

Now that I read this sub all the time, I'm constantly trying to do better when I encounter workers out in the world as a customer. In drive-thrus, on 1-800 calls, car repair places, with cable people, etc. I know the millions of reasons you didn't want to walk in the door this morning, and I try hard not to be one of them. If you work a customer service job, what are some things we could all do to make your days tolerable? What could we make sure not to do when we become your customer? Not to sound all corporate, but looking forward to your feedback!

Bullied and scammed at work rant.

Lately I’ve been dealing with problems completing tasks at work. I’ve also been struggling at home after work due to extreme exhaustion. When starting this newer job a little over a month ago I was very excited although it was a downgrade in position and pay. I try to help coworkers by nature and am all for team work. Over the last month I’ve been taken advantage of time and time again. It’s gotten to the point if I am present I take care of phones, customers and have to stop my work to assist another in their task. I am cleaning up after others and washing their dishes as well. I am fine with no praise or gratitude, but it’s gotten to the point I’m being taken off tasks, told I am being too slow etc. I can go all day without a break until end of shift and…
