That way we can stop spending our money at businesses that underpay and treat people like slaves.
Excellent read on our economy
My husband works for a massive global corporation that until recently was comfortable with their employees doing some time in the office and some time at home. Certain employees with special situations were allowed to work from home. More recently the CEO of the company jumped online to let the employees know that everyone, regardless of their situation, is required back to the office for five days a week, no exceptions. My husband has difficulty breathing, I was recently diagnosed with a disability, and we have a very young child who can’t be vaccinated. The company isn’t making any allowances for people who are vulnerable or at risk. I need help, any advice or support or sharing and venting could help me right now. I’m so angry and I feel like this company are a bunch of disgusting ableists. What should I do? How can I help my husband through…
So, let’s start with introductions. I’m keeping my name off the record, however I was a crew member for Wendy’s for about 3 years, was a manager for about a year totaled. In my experience with Wendy’s, especially in management, there are things that bothered me significantly and what eventually led me to quit. So, let’s start. The first thing is pay: Crew members usually start out at $10 an hour, some with experience or crew members that are in the watching period for management, can make $11. Managers, specifically Shift Supervisor, make $13 starting. One of my coworkers, who had about five years worth of management experience and was a former battalion chief for a fire department, made $14. And the best one? Crew members who volunteered to be on-call 24/7, only have one off day, working six days a week, would make $13. They would give up their…
There is a disconnect
I looked down on the city from my apartment's balcony last night. Cars on the bridge. Like a bunch of buzzing bees. I can't see any stars but I can see the flashing lights of planes and helicopters. The air feels extremely dry for this time of year and I'm looking at the reason why: The rapid expansion, the consumption it invites, and the nonstop movement of gas guzzling machines that keep it all afloat. Like heroin travelling through diseased arteries. I also kept getting wafts of greasy cooking smells from restaurants down below. Unnatural elements were effectively pervading all senses. Of all these ubiquitous sights in modern society, none are organic. This entire lifestyle is not even a century old yet. It took over that fast. And it's going to kill us sooner rather than later. We have the data but we just keep trucking because so many of…
Follow-up to pregnancy announcement
So, I announce my pregnancy to my employer and I receive an answer by email days later, inviting me to a meeting to talk performance issues. https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/uk249f/announce_pregnancy_boss_wants_to_meet_to_talk/i7odkjh/?context=3 The meeting went very badly. They didn't raise any positive contributions I made (and I had a whole list of it), citing mistakes that were caught in the validation process and the fact that I don't take as much initiatives as they expected. I didn't receive any formal training and since the beginning of my employment, expectations were unclear at best and unrealistic at worse. My day is filled with tasks that demand knowledge from graphic design to programming. They don't have any process of revision, and just say they expect near-perfect work. I am very stressed and I sleep badly since then. I am not perfect in any way, but I work really hard and I feel that they will be worst…
You out-of-touch twat
Quick back story. I’m 29m and I work in maintenance, I have my entire life starting from a mechanic, to now an office job doing planning. I started a new job about two months ago, apprehensively because I’m trying to get out of the field. Maintenance 90% of the time regardless of company is full of 50ish year old white males, who have horrible racial, political, and sexual views, without being prejudice, I think you can get the gist. Since I’ve been here I’ve heard personally someone in my department trash a FTM transgender woman, talk about how gay people aren’t correct, and no one’s born that way, and their “religion” says not to accept it, and so if they can’t respect him, why should he respect them? One of the other workers calls me “kid” because of my young age for my position. Another one constantly talks about having…
Are you really busy a full 8 hours when you work remote? Or can you get your work done in a few hours here and there and such?
How do I ask for a Raise? Please help
Hello! I work at a grocery store in the meat/seafood department. And I'm the only full time person that closes at night, which means the store relies heavily on me nearly every night. I've closed by myself so many times even though it's a full teams job. I've put in so much for the company. Last week, I had to walk miles to work. My car was broke down and the bus in my area is very unreliable. So I walked. And I seriously got injured on that walk. My foot was bleeding really badly. Even though I made it to work on time it was all for nothing because I was too hurt to make it through the day. I had a moment of clarity and was like “Why am I hurting myself for 15/hr?” I have no food at home right now, I had to steal menstral products,…
