I just started a job at a new restaraunt. It's only temporary because I'll be going back to school in the fall. I have a support system through my parents but I still need to contribute/definitely want some personal spending money so while this job isn't EVERYTHING I still have to work. I told the boss I was ok with working 6 days a week expecting to have varied shifts but he only hired 4 people for upfront and my hours are 12-9pm Monday through Saturday. Since it takes me a bit to get there and get home, I'm pretty stressed out now that 10 hours out of my day will be dedicated to this job. I would have been cool with 40 hours and wish I had been more upfront about how many hours I wanted from the beginning because 54 is overwhelming to me. Sooo… he also mentioned…
So I'm halfway through my mandatory (contractually agreed) 6 week notice period. I was only at the firm for a very short time, so I got a really boring project to do for the 6 weeks, because I wasn't trained enough for anything else. My personal life has been sort of stressful the last few weeks, and my boss has been out with Covid, so I've basically just ghosted everyone else (WFH btw) during daily standups and such, and not done any work on the project. Problem is now my boss is trying to make contact and get status on my work, and I'm thinking of ways to get out of it and/or apologize on a personal basis – don't really care about the firm, but he's a great guy and I wanna be at least somewhat decent. Any ideas on how to handle that?
Cost of being employed in PEI tourism
Had to look it up as I had never heard it before. It comes from the Piper Alpha disaster where 167 people died and is used in business reporting to create a sense of urgency. Either jump into the unknown or accept certain death by remaining on the platform. What world are we living in when we can casually use a disaster which killed so many people as a metaphor to make a decision.
A 4 Days week, is not 10h workdays!
I see them pop up everywhere in News sites, Facebook Ads, Twitter. The Headline “'Company X' now has a 4 Days week” What those guys mean with their Life/work balance company guidelines is: Work 4 Days for 10 Hours, get 3 free days. That is not a 4 Days week! I doubt you can stay productive 8 hours straight, let alone 10 Hours! No, your Company is not work/life balanced if your workers give up their life 4 out of 7 Days!
Tech Workers Lie Flat
I'm supposed to start a new job at a Jushi (corporation) operated grow tomorrow. It's literally the only game in town where I am for a cannabis job. Ive been jobless with not much luck looking elsewhere, and now broke, for months. Being a stoner, cannabis lover and recent grower, I was appaled when I went for a tour of their facility during interview process. Idk why ppl buy their overpriced garbage. I have been contemplating not going in tomorrow for last week it's killing me. I'd love to live elsewhere where I could work for a legacy cannabis growers or “mom n pop” so to speak, not a fucking CORPORATE fuck. Or work for myself, but did I mention I'm fucking poor, lol. Fuck the system. Venture Capitalists taking advantage of the changing laws and, as we all suspected, swoop in and buy their way in to attempt a…
