Throwaway account. Incoming associate. Employer booked me super expensive flights with 2+ connections, long wait times, each way. Maybe they didn't do their research or prices drastically lowered, but I can book better flights for one-fourth the price, AND non-stop. Shocking. Do they hate me? IDK. But, this is not going to work for me. The tickets are non-refundable so airline won't refund the firm. I've also confirmed this detail with the firm itself. They will only be able to provide credit for my future use (in my name – not firm's name). TLDR: Is it ethical/illegal/ a bad look to “cancel” my current bad flights, pocket the credit, and book my own flights out of pocket? Any suggestions? I'm not sure if the firm will find out and don't want to create a bad impression, but 2+ stops each way when there are so many better alternatives is irritating.
I started a new job earlier this year, in a small company after being completely burned out by a gigantic multi-billion group that treats people like shit. Thought a smaller company (~10 employees) would consider their workers better. Oh boy was I wrong. I'm in a European country where you have pretty long trial periods (3 months). The CEO, who happened to be my direct manager at this new job was a complete nightmare. He flat out refused to train me. Said he didn't had the time to do so. Except no one else in the company could train me for this specific job except him. I tried my best to do this job, but nothing I would do would be good enough for him. (I'm an engineer but my field is very specific so I can't say it on here) He would regularly accuse me of trying to sabotage…
“We are seeing major hiring problems”.
I’ll be leaving my job soon, bittersweet
Medical field. Been there about 3 years (8-5, M-F, holidays off and a few grand of untaxed bonuses a year) . Love the people I work for and with. But the pay is ass and NO benefits. Now moved an hour away and on top of the ass pay and no benefits, it's putting a damper on not only my finances, but my life as I spend so much of it driving and at work. More important to me than the pay, is 401K. I'm 30 and have NO retirement. I already have an interview this week. Looking around places are not only offering hire on bonuses, +$10 an hour (even more if i take an overnight or ER !) , but BENEFITS! Don't stay where you're at because you're comfortable there, do better for you and your family! For your future! Bittersweet and I'm going to be sad when…
So on Tuesday, my company laid off 4 people from my team. (One of them was my sister) That VERY SAME DAY they asked me to do overtime this weekend. Suddenly they need help covering the weekend morning shift. I work the evening shift and I’m already scheduled to work Saturday evenings. So basically they wanted me to do Saturday 7a-3p + my 3p-11p, and Sunday 7a-3p. Absolutely fucking not???? Don’t lay people off then if you’re not equipped enough to handle someone’s emergency sick call and only have one person to turn to and ask if they can work 24 hours in a 2 day span. What the actual FUCK are these companies thinking? To add insult to injury, my sister and her husband finally found a house (in this trash market) that works for their family, isn’t wildly overpriced, and ACTUALLY had a good inspection. They wasted a…
Employer (hospital) using CTO
I recently became sick with COVID. I work at a hospital. As I had a fever they wanted me out for an initial 5 days due to the possibility of being contagious. Wednesday was my positive date, after I had called out Monday and Tuesday for not feeling well, Wednesday they had me get tested and I came back positive. They told me then that I would have to stay out for five days, to return Monday (tomorrow) as long as I didn't have a fever with no medication. Fast forward to today, I have a fever and am still feeling shitty. I call, one of the triage nurses tells me I'll have to do the full 10 day isolation. I asked if I was eligible for COVID pay, but I will only be able to use this after exhausting all of my CTO. If I had any issues I…
Long story short, I just put in my resignation at my place of employment of over 10 years. It's been pretty good for the most part but last 2 years has been brutal. We all felt like since the pandemic the company just figured out a way to micromanage and used the pandemic as an excuse. I got into some performance issue with management. I fought back and said I actually over performed but they were say one of my stats were not good and said it was misconduct. I fought back harder becasue I hold myself to high standards. After that the company did some shady shit. I don't want to go into detail becasue that might identify me but there were was harassment and unfairness. Some workplace intimidation. At the end of all this I decided I respect myself enough to not work for a company like this.…
