I’m in the military and this didnt happen to me, but a friend of mine. We used to have this mid-level officer, we’ll call her Boss Lady, who lashed out to junior officers daily. She had the ear of the Captain, so if you were on her bad side then you were pretty much screwed in terms of meeting career milestones (which impacts future job placement). This particular officer started a rumor that my friend, call her Jane, had slept with a junior ranking Sailor (fraternization). So she gets investigated for it, and the investigation comes out not guilty. Boss Lady is furious so she sat Jane down for informal, but written paperwork, stating “The appearance of being guilty is contrary to good order and discipline”. She then proceeded to tell her that if she continues with her behavior she will revoke the Commanding Officer’s recommendation for promotion. Not a…
Christy Moore-Ordinary Man
An old song by Irish singer, Christy Moore. About an honest, hard worker who gets let go when a factory closes. Owner says the times are hard but he's richer than ever… https://youtu.be/LIh5dUOz824 I'm an ordinary man, nothing special nothing grand I've had to work for everything I own I never asked for a lot, I was happy with what I got Enough to keep my family and my home They say that times are hard and they've handed me my cards They say there's not the work to go around But when the whistle blows, the gates will finally close Tonight they're going to shut this factory down Then they'll tear it down I never missed a day nor went on strike for better pay For twenty years I served them best I could Now with a handshake and a cheque it seems so easy to forget Loyalty through…
Just like it says, I’m genuinely curious, I usually go to interviews in nice jeans, boots and a nice blouse. Is it really that bad? I dunno, I guess I feel like I shouldn’t have to wear slacks, dress or a skirt to an interview to be taken seriously or be hired. If I look presentable, why are jeans so bad.
I'm working for a University-run program this summer for 12 weeks and am being paid $4,000 for it. I was ecstatic until I realized that: I had been notified of my acceptance late enough that there were no viable subleases left in my area, which usually run at roughly $600/month and the cost of University housing for that period would be approximately $3,450, plus or minus ~$100 depending on the final daily housing rate I'm given. I'm expected to work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, as well as create various final projects/papers, all in exchange for what ends up being just over $8/hour. The University-provided housing for the University-run program would be leaving me with roughly $500 to feed, clothe, and care for myself for three months, a minimal amount of which would be able to be set aside for future expenses. Thankfully, I have parents who…
How immoral would this be?
I am an independent contractor. One of my clients offered me a position to work for them only, making me their employee next month and forgoing the rest of my clients. Several of my clients have expressed the desire to continue working with me. I have declined all of them because my soon to be new employer wants me to devote myself to them. Also, they will be paying me for a certain number of hours per week. There is one client; however, who I am tempted to keep because they don't require as much time. The issue is that both clients would want me to be available regular daytime business hours. Oh, by the way, I'm remote. I really could use the extra money, but I think I would feel icky about doing this.
Credit Score
I could use some advice. I’m moving in with my gf in 6 days. Landlord says I need to be on the lease. I submit my application, 2 paystubs, and a credit check. I make twice the rent on my own, so that’s no problem. I have a great rent history. 10+ years, always on time. The problem is the credit check. I just took out an auto loan for a new car. I can still afford car and rent no problem. But I took a hit to my credit score because of it. The landlord says my application is denied. No co-sign, no paying extra downpayment. Nothing, gtfo. “Company policy” My lease here is up in 7 days and idk what to do… gf’s lease is up in June and we were really looking forward to living in her place together. Is there anything I can do? Why am…
These bloody recruiters smh
As things with Covid have “calmed down” the company I work for has asked us to return to the office a couple days a week. My department and the sales department are in the same section of the building in a very “open office” set-up. My desk is about 10-12 feet away from the closest sales person. When I got there this morning I noticed it was uncommonly quiet and there were no sales people at their desks whatsoever, pretty unusual for a Monday morning. Considering how loud they are and how disruptive that can be in an open office, I wasn't unhappy with the situation, just curious. After about two hours without seeing any other human beings I G-chatted one of the sales people I'm friendly with and jokingly asked if they were all on vacation. When he found out I was in the office he typed “yikes” and…
