I came into work today full of anxiety (short breath, feeling like I'm about to throw up) and said if I need to leave, I will. I was told I can't leave unless A: I find coverage (I don't talk with my coworkers much so not possible) and B: to have a Drs note. How do you just go and get a note saying “8bitgamer757 had too much anxiety today so he's fine to be home”???? I need to get out of this shitty dishwashing job, it's tearing my body and mind apart.
Especially if it's been less than a month. Just started 3 weeks ago. After this week of being hands on and not shadowing anymore, I just can't see myself doing this full time everyday. Especially after the paycheck. Not worth it for the work required. I think it's better to leave earlier rather than waste either of our time even more. I know there has been some time invested in me and I was able to start 2 weeks after hire date – so it's already been a month of time invested in me. but employers should always keep in mind that we aren't bound to jobs and they might also not be the right for us, or we can leave for literally ANY reason without ANY explanation. I think they feel that I'm in it for the long haul so they're in for a surprise!
Far beyond simply bringing a person in for a chat after combing their resume and establishing rapport through an intro call, many companies have gone to Intro Call + Zoom/In Person meeting I with 2-3 people questioning the candidate followed by Zoom/In Person meeting II with 2-4 more people questioning the candidate, followed by radio silence for weeks on end before a decision is rendered. Before a candidate has even advanced to a phone call, some places will make you do ridiculous things like respond to essay questions or solve logic puzzles or record a video of yourself going over things without the nuance of human interaction. I find these hurdles ridiculous given the alleged shortage of labor. And that’s not even factoring in the outright discrimination against older workers, the disabled, minorities, and younger workers in regards to opportunity and salary. From corporate firms on down, the conditions to…
well my parents both died so….
Disclaimer, this is not a story about me, one of my coworkers was out for 2 weeks and each of us have roughly 100-200 clients assigned to us When she came back she told me she had found out both her parents had died and was taking care of there estate and just dealing with it as best she could, at the end of the 2nd day after she came back she called me and said she just wanted to stop talking to clients for a few min, to which i was fine with. She told me some truly shitty things, her clients were wondering why she was out, which is understandable, her response to all of them was “o i was just out of the office but i am back now” Her clients were fucking awful, they were literally demanding to know why she was not there. saying things…
