who comes up with this stuff
I loved my job but lately it's been difficult because I haven't been trained well and no matter how many questions I ask or notes I take it still isn't enough. I still happen to make mistakes because I wasn't taught those things at all and it's the first time I come upon them. I was told by a supervisor that after one bad night of messing up that the team lead that just got promoted didn't want to deal with me anymore. I need genuine advice im doing my best to do my job and do it right but it seems like it's not enough. I'm terrified of making mistakes especially from getting a write up. I work at a hotel and there's constantly new things that happen.
I was working at SunTrust Bank and then transferred to a BB&T branch and things are so different, but I'm getting used to it. I've been there two weeks and everyone has been nice and helpful. Here are the reason I dislike it and its 100% personal, also heads up this post is me 100% complaining. 1) The computers are so slow. At SunTrust my computer was fast and I could have multiple programs open, also at SunTrust our monitors were around 23 inches, the monitor that I'm currently using is about 17 inches. I know this doesnt seen bad but it's just such a downgrade 2) At SunTrust we had 3 cash drawers at each teller station, at the new branch we only have 2 at each station. Which I know doesn't sound bad, but when you have businesses and gas stations that deposit thousands of dollars of cash…
So I did retail for a decade, straight out of school. Recently I said F it and finally quit (my mental health thanks me). Now I do cleaning, which is not glamorous work, but I get a higher wage and I don’t need to be serving the public anymore. I usually actually enjoy cleaning. I just feel like now, I’m being paid for my work, for what I’m worth, rather than my job being to put more money in the big guy’s pocket, you know? Does this make sense? I felt like it would make sense here. Any similar stories please do share!
Let me preface two things: I'm a freelancer, so I'm not talking about my boss but about someone who shares his clients with me – that kind of makes him in a power position, he's also a senior and I'm not, but I'm not hired nor his employee. And I'm not English native so bare with me if this gets messy sometimes or I choose my words poorly. Basically, as in the title: I'm paid well, I work from the comfort of my home, I love what I do and I feel very lucky to be able to do it. But then I have to interact with my clients or the people who give me money, basically, and suddenly everything gets awful. Like today. After 7 months of flawless work on my accounts I make a mistake. It was my fault, but not entirely, because this person who gives me…
Always been the case for me as I don't enjoy work. I personally believe that in most cases, (having to) work = modern day slavery. UBI will not happen for at least 10 years I predict, since the elite doesn't want to disincentivize working for the lower and (barely existant) middle class, so people are going to have to keep working just to survive I really wish I was born a trust fund kid. Imagine being able to do whatever you like and just enjoy life, nice and slow, comfortably, going on a hike if you want, when you want, driving a nice car if you want, going to places if you want to etc Pretty messed up my boss is making 10x the money I make, off me and my bloody sweats. The only solution appears to be my own boss but that's gonna take a while in my…
The Great Resignation at work
The great resignation is working, and companies are starting to show labor some respect via closer-to-livable wages. We still have a long way to go but this is good progress! https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/28/business/target-starting-wage-increase/index.html
One of the few positive things to come out of this pandemic is the ability to work from home. While remote work is great, one of th e downsides is companies installing remote tracking software on employees computers and monitoring them. Either through camera, mouse movement, keyboard strokes, or other means. How could we end this kind of surveillance or get around it?
Turning coal into diamonds was a favorite way to justify pressure at my last company. We are making you better by making you do two jobs for the same salary. We are grooming you for bigger and better things someday. Turns out that coal stays coal no matter how much pressure it's under and artists stay artists even when they work at crappy companies. The only diamonds were on my manager's watch from the bonus he got for money saving staff cuts.
