Hi! Are there any books or authors that argue for automation of management jobs? Thanks for your help!

My workplace has music constantly on, and it drives me insane

It's usually some mix playlists on youtube, with all the current and relevantly old pop songs. My shift is 9 hours, and i can do nothing about it, but listen to it during the whole working day. Once the speakers were not working and we had 0 music that day and I realized how less tired I left worm that day. There is no point in talking to my supervisor about it because he thinks it “keeps the energy going at work and keeps workers pumped.” Wtf is thhis torture

Well-known internet company posts $20-34 job, is surprised-pikachu when I ask for $32

Inspired by u/sinistervice's story, here is mine as a minimum wage grunt trying to punch up in life Interviewer: “What is your most recent job and what did you do?” Me: “I was the Tech Associate of the retailer that is opposite of Walmart. I assisted Guests with any technology related advice or questions, ensured the merchandise was show-ready, and resolved any…complex, situations to the satisfaction of our Guests. Overall, I was running the department by myself 5 days a week an average of 7 hours each day.” Interviewer: “So you worked in retail. Tell me of a time you encountered a really hostile customer and how did you resolve the situation.” Me: “There was one time when I had a line of roughly 8+ people waiting on me to open merchandise cases for them. I was in the middle of a cell phone activation. Normally…

Complaining about a line manager? Am I in the right?

Can i complain about my line manager? Will I actually get an outcome? Hi everyone. I think my line manager/team leader is bullying me and I have had enough. But I don’t know if I’m overreacting so I need some more opinions. I work in the healthcare sector in the U.K. – funny because I thought that’s where mental health and physical health would matter the most but clearly not to the people I work with. I’ve been working at my current workplace for nearly 2 months now. But I feel like I am being so nitpicked by my current line manager. I must also point out although maybe not relevant that I am an ethnic minority in my workplace. I was late once due to traffic (I catch the bus – a bus that only comes once every 2 hours from my town) so it takes me an hour…

How I am I supposed to keep going

(To be up-front, this is like half venting and half actually asking for advice.) So I'm 19, and about to start my junior year of college this fall and I genuinely don't know how I am going to survive after college. I am very fortunate in my current situation living with my grandparents and having no cost of living besides my cat and any food/snacks I buy for myself. I have had a part-time job for a year so I have a pretty good amount of money saved up. However, I cannot fathom how I am going to find a job and survive after this period of my life. My major is super niche, East Asian Language and Culture, so it is very unlikely I am going to find a well paying job in that field. (My definition of well paying is enough to live comfortably without stressing over income…

My partner received this ‘Heirarchy’ from her employer.

This pyramid chart is entitled 'Heigharchy' and was sent in an email to all staff at a cafe my partner was working at recently. There were some disagreements between staff and this was the answer management had. All the full time staff names are listed. Apparently the part time and casual staff weren't worth including by name. Most staff were hired based on appearance, were all female and dealt with strict uniform rules re: skirts not being too long. Were also paid the minimum hospitality wage. During a staff meeting, the manager, and daughter of the owner, made sure the staff knew “so many people in town name would love to work here, you're easily replaceable”. One of the staff members quit after fighting with the owner, came back after a few months and was pregnant and received fully paid maternity leave. Another staff member that had worked there for…

An office environment where nobody talks to each other? What do I do?

I started a new job a few months ago, which has the option for work from home and working in the office. During my interview they talked about how they really wanted someone who would come to the office. I lived 2 hours away at the time of interview, and I planned to move to the Capital City the office is in but I really didn't like the areas there when I went for viewings, so I went for a commuter town 1 hour away instead. The trains aren't cheap, I have no car, and it is 2 hours journey in total if I do go in, but I was really fine with the commute time and cost. The thing is, when I go to the office, nobody talks – not just not to me but to anyone. The office is silent all day, people just put their headphones on…
