I’ll get down to it: My old employer is a (small business)restaurant owner located in a city expanding and unable to keep up with the growing rate of tourism///whatever is going on there. I moved. Most of us workers knew we were being taken advantage of, but never thought much about legality. It was lesser of a typical restaurant atmosphere at that time, and more very close bonds with customers. Very classic mom and pop feel, very ignore all the bad and just focus on the money and actual bonds formed. Covid, of course, destroyed our once “veteran” like serving staff. My daughter is 15 and works for BD in Australia. She has set finishing hours but if the team doesn't finish their closing routine then she will finish later. She doesn't get paid for any time worked after her set finishing time. They are encouraged to keep selling stock even though this results in a later finishing time. She worked on 26 Dec, which is a public holiday here, until 5:15 but only got paid until 4:30. The full time team member kept selling items which pushed them behind. This happens regularly, she often works 30, 45, 60 minutes after close of business to get the shop shut. Seems illegal to me, I wonder if this is common in other Bakers Delights?

Do most of you guys work 8s or what? NY current place just did away with their 8s and now do 10s or 12s. It's a goofy two on two off 3 on, repeating schedule. But 12s are so soul sucking I've been doing it for years and around 8 hours I want to stick a pistol in my mouth every day. No 8 hour job pays nearly the same tho so I just deal with it by thinking about dying in their parking lot and wondering how many shifts it'd go unnoticed with a security guard/shack there. I wager 36 to 60 hours but who knows.

The company had two employees bring in a ps5 to hook into the network for some late night gaming when it was slow over the holiday- this sent up a big red flag at corporate IT who thought the server was being hacked (they got hacked in 2022 and lost control of the server for several days). Corporate got involved, two employees lost their jobs. Was this justified? Discuss.
