Some time ago I made a thread about how Boomers had a fraction of our work load because work was slow and took time (especially office work) but modern technology has made things 10x faster. So we get 10x more work through emails, skype, teams, phone calls, sms etc and are working like crazy most of them time to keep up.
Another factor are skeleton crews. These have become the new normal. I am alone for a job that should require at least 2 people – but instead I am expected to work like crazy and make overtime because sorry we cannot hire a second guy. Meanwhile big boss gets a 200 000 Dollars bonus….
Everywhere I go I get the feeling that the staff has been reduced to the bare minimum and the remaining employees are expected to work at 110% all the time.
A supermarket that has 8 cash registers but only 2-3 are manned most of the time.
A restaurant with 50 tables where there are just 2 waiters.
Hospitals where 3 nurses are expected to manage the entire floor.
No one wants to pay anymore but they all expect 110% all the time. Meanwhile there existed a time when people were overstaffed. This meant fewer stress because the tasks could be spread out equally and be done slower because there were more people working on it.
And then they complain that one one wants to work…
