Bit of a rant…
I have been unemployed for 10 months now after being fired from my last job due to attendance issues that were related to diagnosed health issues which I requested accommodations for but were never given and in turn, my body was pushed beyond its limits and I was unable to move multiple days out of my 6 day a week schedule (one day was only 3 hours of work but still required me to be up at 4am and them walk 2 miles as I am medically permitted from driving and the work location is not near the bud lines).
I have tried getting on disability only to be told I “don't look disabled enough” to need it and my unemployment lapsed a few months ago. I have been applying for every part time job I can find within walking distance and that's within reasonable bus travel. But I notice that the second I mention that I need an accommodation, or any for that matter, I get ghosted by employers. I don't have the means to go to college, my desired field is mostly at home computer work, I have a high school diploma, and I'm versed in various organizational skills. The amount of times that I hear from my partner, family, and friends that “nobody wants to work anymore” is driving me insane. I want to work so bad but yet I'm not even being given the opportunity to work just because employers would rather be lazy and find someone who doesn't need a basic accommodation. (Frankly, it's just a chair to sit in and be stationary if I'm applying to be a cashier and other similar work due to aggravated scoliosis in my low spine. Nothing too extreme.)
Is this just in WA state or are other places seeing this effect too?
