When did management decide it is up to the employee to find someone to cover their shift? Why have we come to tolerate this?

It is so stupid. If the managers are in charge of scheduling people, they should also be in charge of finding coverage. It’s just one more thing to offload to the employee for which they have to be responsible for. If a manager doesn’t want to be in charge of finding coverage, they shouldn’t be managing.
