When applying to jobs online, beware of staffing agencies

Staffing agencies, aka recruitment consultancies, aka employment services are not there to help the candidate. They will waste your time, steal your information and sell it to the companies for money. If you do get hired through an agency, they take a cut of your wage. They don't do anything but pass around balk resumes. They are leeches. They are also very sneaky, and will post a general looking job descriptions with low requirements. Once you submit your info, you'll most likely never hear back. It just wastes your time and energy.

New hires getting paid more than myself – been with company almost 5 years

Hello! Hopefully this is the right place to get some advice. I’ve been with my company nearly five years now doing outside sales. About a week ago, my manager asked if I would go on an interview with him for my opinion. During the interview, the candidate stated how much money she made one month at her previous job, which is way more than I’ve ever made here. After she left, I asked my manager if he told her our company isn’t the place to go if she’s expecting those payouts. He responded with “she knows, I let her know of the starting salary of $XX,XXX.” The starting salary is about $3,000 more than what I make now. Shocked, I told him I don’t make that much. He started to argue saying “yes you do!” Clearly, I know how much I get paid. Anyways, if he hires this person, I…

It’s so hard to be an employee

I am not a yes man. I hate “team building exercises” like carving a pumpkin together or signing a birthday card for the owner. I do not grovel at the feet of middle management or owner. This makes me disagreeable and ungrateful. They are humans like you and I. How I act in office is how I act outside office. I live below means and still have to work 2 jobs a full time and part time to get paid enough to save a bit for emergencies. All I want is to have enough money to open a business. My goal is to open a business because I know I wouldn’t be some horrible boss who is so in debt and over leveraged that I make others around me work long hours and days because I have to afford the office building because I don’t believe in remote work and…

2 degrees, approx 10 quid an hour, and 4 hours of commute each day. I feel like I’m killing myself.

It's the only job I could get out of uni after 6 months of searching. I had my first burnout last week. I don't know how to keep this going. Tempted to go on a reduced contract just so I can take a midweek break, but I feel so weak for admitting so. It also feels like my own fault that I have to take public transport (was too scared to get my driver's license), so can I really complain? Every day I tell myself I'm one day closer to finding my balance, but I think I'm kidding myself Man being an adult sucks

Capitalism and Anti-work are antithetical to one another.

It specifically says, right there in the sidebar, that this subs idea of AW is based on Marxism and Anarchism. I don't not want to work. I don't want to reform the system so I'm being exploited less. I don't want handouts. I want my labor to support myself and my community. I want my labor to create a meaningful, positive change in the world around me. I want work to produce what humans need and want to survive, not to produce what some jerkoff needs to get rich. Some of you are laboring under the misinformed opinion that landlords, franchisees, and other petty bourgeoisie are allies or some shit. They aren't. Capitalists will always go where the profit is. The profit under our system is exploiting you, for as much as they can. You can not be a capitalist and anti-work.

Is it wrong for me to want to know the schedule of the job I applied for before going for the interview?

I recently applied for a job on indeed. A woman got back to me the next day and said the shift that was needed was 4pm-12am and asked if I would like to come in for an interview. I emailed her back and said yes and asked what the schedule was so I would know what days I would have to be available. She emailed me back saying she does not work in scheduling but I could come in for an interview at 11am tomorrow and learn more about the program. I haven't emailed her back yet. I don't know if I'm being too needy or what. It would be kind of a waste of time if I can't make the schedule work. Maybe it's a type of thing where they work with you on the days? I just think it's a waste of both our time and gas for…

Labor Shortage My Ass

I’ve been applying to jobs in a field that is claimed to be “in demand” since December. Out of hundreds of applications, I’ve only had 3 interviews. Out of those three interviews, I’ve had to go through some sort of preemployment screening like references and what not. I’ve gotten one offer and had it rescinded the very next day. I can’t believe that I have a degree in engineering and a strong job resume with high profile projects and I can’t find a job. I just want to move back to my home state and get out of the hell hole I’m currently living in. I just want a job that isn’t going to give me a panic attack by the end of the day. I just want to be able to save for grad school so I can have a career I care about but I can’t because the…
