This company is sabotaging itself…
I worked for this company for 3 years now and I witnessed a lot of bad decisions they made but now I just can’t help but laugh at this. I work in a factory and we had 12 clients (some big companies). Recently they made a deal with 3 more. The assembly line were built for 2 out of 3 but they had to move the Warehouse to the other side of the city. Now if I order something it’s gonna be 4 hours before it arrives. This whole thing leads to several problems: We, the Material Handlers, have to work harder and more calculated since because the truck comes every 4 hours from the WH it’s necessary to have all the materials ordered in time. But sometimes it’s impossible since all the assembly lines make multiple models of the finished product. And when they change models it is important…
It can't keep going like this. We need to figure out how to fight the ever-worsening economic / workplace issues that are already affecting so many of us. No full-time worker should need to choose between food or basic shelter or medicine/health care. I have so many friends that would love to have children, but are deciding not to because they either can't afford a child or they worry that they would be bringing a child into a life of toil that has them working as a wage slave until they die. THIS IS NOT OK. I own a successful small business and I pay my (one) employee $26/hr and PTO that accrues at twice the rate I got back when I still worked for someone else, myself. This is for simple admin work because, seriously, he would not be able to afford even a crummy studio apartment in our…
Double Bank Holiday Pay?
Does anyone else feel obligated to work on the bank holiday or holidays where there is double pay even if your unwell? Background- I work as a casual host because it’s the only job that won’t question me for doctors notes or make me apologise every time because I suffer from a chronic illness that is prone to random, painful and frequent flare ups, and will sometimes need to call in sick, swap shifts, or give them away to my colleagues. And sometimes this will be a bank holiday where we get double pay. While I definitely need the money-the flare ups can be immobilising like today. When I come into work my colleagues will complain that I gave my shift away or insist that I was silly to give away work or money when the pay is double. In many ways they’re right but I did it once and…
Even the self-employed deal with this BS
The lowest of the low
I just found a 15min break coupon from my old job. It expired in 2013 and I’m pissed I didn’t use it!
Growing up I (30F) heard this a lot and when it came time to go to college I was reminded of this so I majored in what I “love” which was art/graphic design and I regretted it. In college it was drilled into me by multiple professors that in order to succeed I needed to “live and breathe design” and to literally consume it even when standing in line at the grocery store (look at design on Pinterest, etc). Jobs in the field paid little to nothing and required long hours plus weekends and professors said how normal this is. I remember we had guest speakers who even said they had no time for relationships/starting a family because their “passion” took precedence. That’s fine and dandy but I found it kind of sad. I remember the disgust my professor had when talking about a former colleague who left design to…
This community seems to be full of people who have been sheltered from reality for so long (probably by parent or school) that they think they can just change the reality of life entirely as too not have the burden of needing to put something in to get something out, you know the whole planet relies on work to function from the bees and ants “slaving away” to keep their colony alive and the ecosystem running to humans producing good and services through work to provide for others, a lot of you really need to question yourself at too why you think like this because all I see is a bunch of people who are just plain lazy and don’t need to work because it outsourced by someone else like the government or your parents, and doing all this well trying to convince yourself that your morally superior and care…
