One of the most common answers I've come across in this sub is “talk to a lawyer” and I 100% agree! My question is how do we reconcile needing professions (lawyers, doctors ect) to always be available to us with the concept of those professions working less and achieving a better work life balance. Thanks in advance!
Rant: I wish “real” jobs payed fairly.
I've worked my entire career in office jobs, “bullshit” jobs. It has paid decently but I feel useless and like doing nothing with life. I crave to work in jobs that are “real”, like building something or cooking or farming but alas those do not pay enough to support my family. Our economy is so backwards.
First off apologies if this does not belong here. So I’m currently interning at a small undisclosed hardware company and my internship is almost ending. My boss implied that she would like me to stay and become a full employee. She wants to pay me an hourly rate + commission of whatever I sell. The commission does not entice me as I do not care about the selling aspect of the job. I’ve had a talk with some of the employees and they are all getting paid WAY below minimum wage + commission, so that means that the boss is most likely going to pay me less than minimum wage too. Unfortunately I am in a position where I can not let this opportunity go (not in the US) because finding a new job would be too hard where I am. How do I approach the idea, to my boss,…
I'm relatively young and my job is honestly not that hard, and I get paid a lot to do it. My hours kind of suck, they're unpredictable, and I'm on call at all times. Because I respond to requests on Sundays, 9pm, literally whenever, I thought I could wfh for a few hours in the morning and then go into the office. Apparently this annoyed certain individuals, so now I have to make it a point to be in the office 9-5 where people can see me. All of my performance reviews have been spectacular. I'm especially annoyed because my male coworker (who vastly underperforms) showed up to a company event completely coked up, broke a computer, and punched a coworker, did not get fired for 6 months. Annoyed because with everyone going back into the office, I have to “participate” in more social activities at work, and watch men…
I worked for a small local business for 3 years. Was accused of theft with no actual proof to back it up. We had a “meeting” about it and the next week I was suddenly fired due to “ a termination of contract in an at will state.” I’m RIDING this unemployment and loving it! These people were kind and nice and seemed like the best place I have worked in over 17 years. But, when it came down to it, they were just as scummy as any mega corporation. Anyways, I am living and loving my life these days. My former coworkers tell me that are overworked and hate their new and unpaid responsibilities. I’ve encouraged Them to quit.
What to do…
I have a meeting this afternoon with my supervisor to discuss a work from home request I made on Monday(via formal email). We have it in our handbook that this will be considered for employees who prefer it and I'm basically asking because my husband has spent the last two out of three weeks ill because of germs I've brought into the house(he works from home as well). Two weeks ago, my coworker came into work sick after visiting her anti vaxx family, and subsequently gave it to three of us, and I was out for a week. Now, this Friday is my husband's birthday, we've had tickets for a show since October and he's doing his best to rally so we can still go. I'm just trying really hard not to be incredibly angry at my coworker because she's unintentionally ruined plans we've had for six months. So I'm…
Just looking for some book recommendations. Down for anything but bonus points for leftist books. Currently I’m reading: My Life by Fidel Castro On Necrocapitalism by M.I. Asma Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane Some Favorites: The Divide by Jason Hickel Blackshirts and Reds by Michael Parenti Reform or Revolution by Rosa Luxemburg The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Malcolm X
Gave my two weeks last week. Had one forsure offer on the table and a potential offer too. I told them I was going to the potential offer cause I was very confident in it and they told me they wanted to work with me. After being taken out to lunch for a third interview, i got an email a few days later saying I didn't get the job, which me and husband found weird cause the lunch and all other interviews went well. Come to find out that my CEO sent up a meeting with them and was pushing for answers from them (she's also been known give cease and disists) and she caused me the job. But what she didn't know was that I had another great offer up my sleeve but I'm pretty pissed about the situation. She talked to me about it and said she would…
can they do that??
I'm currently paid minimum wage, worked here for three years and they're advertising online that they pay 17.00 an hour now, and it doesn't look like I'll be getting a raise. What can I do?
