Coworker Thinks She’s Funny
My boomer coworker (a social worker no less) has told the same Cinco de Mayo joke about 5 times today. Something to do with the Titanic and mayonnaise. She’s so cringe. I’ve seen her ask two different Black women to touch their hair. She regularly pretends to be intellectually disabled and limps around acting like her arms are disabled and talking incoherently. Once, a group of us social worker’s we’re talking about harm reduction program’s and she chimed in that she doesn’t believe in them because they are “socialism.” When I pointed out that she is a Social Worker who daily works under principles of socialism she Yelled, “I am a Christian and it’s my job to bring these people to Jesus!” Lady, it literally is not!!!!!! We both got called to the supervisor over that one. This is why I want to work from home….
I've been working as a teller in a financial institution for just under a year. I came here with four years of financial industry experience, and had an agreement with SR. HR and the Regional Manager that I would come in, get to know the system and clients, and then move into a higher paying role. About two months ago, I had an advisor come to me and offer to refer me to join the investment management division. This job would have provided me with an extra $25,000.00 in income. This advisor had been observing me for a few months, felt that I was overqualified for my current role (which I am), and felt that I could better serve the company in an advisory position. This comes at a point in my life where I am the sole provider of a family of three facing a move that may require…
Can’t discuss resignation?
I accepted a new job recently and gave my employer 3 weeks notice. I was asked not to discuss it with anyone. My last day is now next week and everyone knows, because they’re approaching me in whispers asking for details. I’ve noticed this practice is very common in my organization anytime someone resigns. They will send out an organizational announcement email on the employees last day, but up until that point it is not discussed. 1) WHY are they asking this? Is it so that I don’t recruit employees to my new organization? And 2) is this legal to ask of me? I’ve been here for nearly a decade. I’d like to tell people goodbye before my last day when they finally announce it. :/ Edit to add- it’s also my news to share. I’m salty that I don’t get to make my own announcement.
Requiring references is kind of bullshit
Look, I get that talking to folks who worked with you previously has some value, but it's such an imposition to request to contact a bunch of people and ask them to speak on record about you for a job you might not even get. Worse, some companies require references to write up a piece about you, forcing you to force your colleagues to preform uncompensated labor so you can have the possibility of landing a job. And all these issues don't even account for the abundance of people leaving toxic work environments without good professional relationships because their former coworkers/managers are abusive. It's a distressing practice and I don't think we should continue with it. I apologize that this wasn't the most coherent post, but I'm pissed off that I can't apply for a job that I want because I don't feel comfortable asking people to have to put…
Earlier this week, the manager(20) of my tea bar called off our mid shift worker because she fully lost her voice, and expected the opener and myself(the closer) to work late/come in early. I declined coming in early as my shift doesn’t begin until 7:30pm and i’ve got shit to do. Anyway, the opener agrees to stay on assuming our manger will take over considering she is the one who told the mid shift to stay home. Fast forward to about 4pm, our manager tells the opener to clock out because she’ll get chewed out if any employees go into overtime, but makes it seem okay by telling her she can still collect tips. My coworker is only 18 and more than likely doesn’t know labor laws, what’s legal/illegal, etc. I was baffled when my coworker texted me that our manager made her clock out and still work. I am…
When they say any of these things kick in after 90 days….examples: higher pay, benefits, sign on bonus, etc. It means you're getting fired in 90 days. And they'll replace you with someone else. Who will work for another 90 days. and so on and so on.
