I work for a retail company as an assistant store manager. Life is hell. My intelligence is constantly called into question, I am micromanaged and I am being gaslit about requesting 2 days off to visit my family who live in another state and who I haven’t seen since September. It’s isn’t like I can afford to go. I make $17 an hour. I am constantly yelled at to not make overtime.I recently discovered that two people who have the same position make $18 and $22 respectively. I have decided to put my marketing degree to use and search for a job that will pay me my worth. But I’m still under water. I can’t pay my loans or for rent and utilities. I’m at the point where I’m ready to end it all to be honest. I came here to chase my dreams and now I’m barely making ends…
It’s not a raise, it’s a bonus
Asked my supervisor when I could expect a raise since I’ve been at the same $12/hr pay rate for the (?)years I’ve been with them. I’ve also gone through all training, placed on other projects with little to no notice….and have almost never had my call quality go below exceptional. Oh and have only had to take 1 occurrence/point Not sure if I should tough it out or just leave. Feel like I’ve been strung along with no increase in sight. “It's not an increase but a bonus. I have to wait to present it to you until they create a listing for the month which I have asked for but have no control over. Just note that it does usually run about a month or so after your anniversary date. You will have the choice between PTO or a lump cash sum which we will discuss when I'm able…
JP blames people not working
Did you all listen today to Jerome Powell on WSJ. He complained of vacancies and quits at an all time high and stated that suggested a labor market that is out of balance there are more demand then workers he would love to see people come back in the labor force. He wants to get supply and demand back together.
Of course they didn’t.
Job Interview Questions and Red Flags?
I have two interviews: one on Thursday and one on Next Monday. They are both remote, but both have the potential to be in office jobs so for the sake of the exercise let's pretend its an in-person job. What questions should I be asking at the end of the interview to sus out whether or not the manager/company is gonna be shitty to me? Additionally, what are red flags I should be looking for as well? So I.E. for both “Why should I choose to work for this company?” “What is the work-life balance?” and for red flags I interviewed at Harris Teeter before the Pandemic and the guy was yelling at his employees before he interviewed he laughed at me when I said 10/hr (he offered me 14/hr but still it was pretty rude) I remember walking out of the grocery store and waving goodbye to an…
Had a nice chat today
CONTEXT- my wife never quits. She’s endured so much crap. She will get sick she will get treated poorly. Doesn’t matter. She works until her shift is done, moving onto the issue! She worked as a server the other day and had 2 heavily intoxicated men trying to grab her and flirt with her and started to say nasty things about what they want to do to her. Nothing was done about it. The manager not only let it go, but followed it up by telling my wife “hey sometimes you gotta do what will make you money” and then as she said “proceeded to look her up and down and wink” So I had a nice chat with the manager as to how this behavior is acceptable and how if it were up to me I’d smash his teeth in, I told them I want the person fired and…
Boss says that they're giving it to a coworker who gets out midday because she has nothing to do and that I just have too many projects. I CHOSE those projects and handled them flawlessly in order to build a reputation and to demonstrate I am ready for leadership positions. WHAT A JOKE Maybe the joke is on me.
Guys I’ve had a long day, sorry if this has been said multiple times before/or grammatical errors. Just wanted to have a discussion on how bad workplace sexual harassment is. I know that rape culture and sexual harassment is a huge society issue but maybe a lot of people don’t want to work too because of how bad harassment (specifically sexual harassment) is. Uhh I’ve quit probably 2-3 jobs because of how uncomfortable I’ve felt with coworkers/male managers. A few other examples my neighbor’s cousin was r*ped and murdered by a coworker she had had issues with (she rejected him he couldn’t handle it), and my male friend has been sexually harassed. Nobody is safe I guess. Everybody stay safe and gtfo of jobs where coworkers or bosses over step their boundaries.
Work is actually hell
“Man, Thank God it's Friday. Thank God 5 of the 7 days of my life are fucking over because I hate 5/7ths of my life.” I think this may be one of the most depressing quotes I've ever heard. I've found that, for me, work is much worse than “a necessary nuisance” for society to function. A “necessary nuisance” does not drive people to commit suicide. A “necessary nuisance” does not drive people to get drunk when they get home because they hate their life. A “necessary nuisance” does not cause people to cry and self harm themselves in the bathroom. Is it really “a wonderful world” if your average Joe is having to take pills to be happy? Seriously all of the corporate world is bullshit. All of it. Why do bosses want you to cradle their balls? Are they not making plenty of money? Why do they have…
