It started by complaining about how poorly the oven functions at the job that I'm on my way out of and contemplating whether or not I want to work brunch next weekend My supervisor said that I can't just not come in because I don't feel like working and it's like what are they going to do? I'm quitting They can't force me to come in, at will employment works both ways. There are financial and potential future career repercussions for leaving a job mid shift or otherwise quitting without notice but they aren't allowed to physically stop you from doing that I actually did tell my manager that a 2 weeks notice would be mother's day and I'm not doing that there and he said this upcoming weekend is super busy so today ended up being my last brunch shift there
Quitting my job to become a freelancer
I’ve recently realized how much I despise workplace hierarchy and the idea of freelancing (video editing) is very attractive to me. I had a bad experience at work last week and I’m not sure a traditional work place is for me. I’ve always been interested in the craft and would love to get started. I also live in a house where I am supported financially whether or not I work. So I don’t really have to worry about financial instability. Would it be unreasonable to up and quit my job and get straight to learning how to edit and gradually turning it into a career?

I don’t see why I should be past my shift time if I don’t get paid, also they expect us to have the store open and ready to go at 9pm but don’t pay us to exactly 9. EDIT Sorry, just to clarify to everyone, I’m in the North of Ireland so I’d be by UK laws! My bad, should’ve mentioned originally. Update So tonight I locked the door at 9:57 (we closed at 10 and I was scheduled too 10) I was then phoned by the boss just after I got outside scolding me for closing early. I told her that since I don’t get paid past 10 then I shouldn’t be in the store doing my work still. To which she replied saying that Im paid to serve until 10. Which I would find fair if I was paid after for the 5 or so minutes it takes…
I just got fired from a small business in Mississippi in retaliation to putting in a two weeks notice and for not being at work on a day that I had been approved to take off, but the owner forgot it had been approved. A secret that I and other employees have been keeping is that they have a 14 year old girl working there 40+ hours a week. She had issues at school and has been homeschooling the past two years. She started working for this business when she was either 12 or 13. She is now currently 14. She is a very sweet girl and is not to my knowledge being forced to work because she wants to save up for a car for when she turns 16. However, and it may be petty reason to, I would like to report this business for child labor violations. If…
European based company with a branch in the US. Small outfit with no HR or anything along those lines. Highest ranking employee is the local VP. Employee moral in general is low given and overall lack of trust by head office. Local VP decides to hold a competition every week where he will “vote on” the best dressed and those with the best hair. Argues because he is gay that it’s nothing the women in the office need to worry about. Wife has ignored this entirely and continued dressing office casual. Have told my wife to see if she can ever get proof of that or his comments via email and immediately call him out if he ever makes a negative comment to her. It’s clear it is not something in line with the head office. That said, there’s a clear history of head office covering up past issues without…
