I’ve applied for a lot of jobs. I started a job as a line lead with a big company with great benefits. Two weeks later a smaller yet more well known company offers me to be a project manager for the same pay… and the benefits aren’t as good. I would get to learn more as a project manager and I wouldn’t travel overnight as much… but the line lead job pays extra for travel and insurance is better/ cheaper. The people seem nice at my current job (line lead) and manger is flexible. Is it worth it to switch jobs after only two weeks to work for a more respected company? If I took this job I would have to travel 50 min one way to pick up a company car (unpaid time) for travel instead of getting a rental nearby my house and being paid the minute I…
You work a boring/robotic job – ok fine, i get it. But what would an Antiwork-World look like when we still need skilled scientists, doctors, engineers, etc.?
A supervisor and I walked out at the same time. 9 hr shift. He was so happy. He asked how I enjoyed my day. I said it was okay. He said, “I'm so proud I was able to get everyone their 30 minute lunch today! It wasn't hard because we were over staffed and that was my only goal, but I did it!” I looked at him confused and said “you definitely forgot one” he says “no. I got them all. I'm so great. I even got to send people home if they wanted because everyone had their break!” I say, “Sir, I can assure you that I did not have a break of any kind” He became very upset with me and then said, “well, how was I supposed to know?” And I said “well, I reminded you twice and asked for a 15 twice. I was told they…
Title says it all. Got hired for an after school teaching position promised 10-14 hours, worked there for 8 months. Showed up every day, never asked for time off, genuinely tried harder than I’ve ever tried at a job. Like I tried so fucking hard at this job and it was never good enough. Was told last Monday that I was being reduced to 6 hours and not to come in on Tuesday. Then, on Thursday I learned that they just gave my hours to my coworker. I assumed they were trying to get me to quit so I quit immediately after my shift. To my surprise, my supervisor was like shocked ? With my hours reduced to 6, I would’ve only made 700$ a month. So sad that I had to quit but I really feel like they just didn’t want me there.
I am still somewhat early in my “career”, but when I get interviewed, I almost hear someone nitpick about my internships and how I have had to change companies a couple of times. I was working on call with a freelancer as my supervisor for a year, then went on to transition to office jobs, where they were either contractual or short term internships. I didn't think of leaving as a bad thing. Most of it was just to look for more experience to get better at my job or the contract just ends. Worst cases it was because the employer was visibly abusive. But somehow, because of my naturally short internships that I took to gain experience are now used against me in job interviews to justify paying me $20/hr. which ain't bad but not great. Considering I have a 5 year degree. The only time I want to…
Communism is when capitalism?
I unfortunately cannot find the link at all or I would love to share with everyone. Long story short, Google News had an article about The Little Mermaid remake and of course there were some upset folks. One person says that basically it's a communist plot to have the 1% in control while the rest are slaves to bankrupt America cause they'll just keep printing out money. I'm like, you just described capitalism. I get that propaganda is a mother fucker, but you just fucking described all the bailouts we give corporations and how the vast majority are living today, but it's somehow communism? Just what in the fuck? I don't get how some people are so ignorant, and to be honest maybe it's a good thing.
Quitting my gym job. Made me feel dirty.
Never sign a contract for a gym. I feel more clean bartending.
One of our new seniors was bullied out of the team in his first week here (to a promotion in another department, bless him). And my boss reassured me that he would find a replacement ASAP, but hasn’t done so since. Meanwhile it’s been up to me to pick up the additional workload. When I followed up with my boss a few months later he said that there were no plans to hire anyone, but to send me candidates if I knew some. So I did, I found excellent candidates basically begging to work here, and shared them with my boss and the unit VP, who ghosted me, and it’s never been spoken about since. I’m sure they’re content to save the extra cash and reallocate it to their year end bonuses. Is this even worth bringing up to him again?
