This feels more like a rant than anything but here goes. Tldr at bottom I worked at a car dealership. Started at the beginning of covid about 2 weeks before lockdown. We shut down and they laid everyone off but we were an essential business and they called me and a few others back to work right away. I went from receptionist to helping out in service, dealing with the rental fleet, eventually was asked to work in bookkeeping, so on. That turned into everyone asking me to do things that werent in the “receptionist” job description. I like being busy so that was fine. Was working tons of overtime. I also got a raise so it felt like my hard work was somewhat being noticed. Everyone was called back to work but the other receptionist was going on maternity leave, so we hired a new girl (A). Training A…
Do We Live in a Burnout Society
Hi guys, Australian here with a question. I have had a chronic issue with my hips for the last year which has turned out to be piriformis syndrome. I have had multiple injections, doctors appointments etc. to all of which a manager and fellow employees have all had knowledge about. The manager had even worked with me and commented on how some movements must hurt my hips. Just over a week ago I had a scheduled half day taken out of my annual leave which was for a doctors appointment. For reasons, the doctors appointment was cancelled and I had told my manager that my hips were still sore so I was going to continue to take my half day. After I sent him that text, he told me that he had told his superiors and they had requested that I get a cleared to work certificate from a doctor.…
Boss forcing me to not work.
I work as an Australian pool and spa cleaner on a full time contract and lately there has not been enough work to spread around to all the employees. Today my boss told me not to come in tomorrow as there was not enough work for me to do. Is he allowed to do this whilst I am on a salary? Note: I don't have any sick or holiday hours to use so I won't be getting paid at all whilst I stay at home.
TL;DR: Read what your employer stances are on second jobs!!! Especially child bonding leaves… I have been debating about posting but I’m just genuinely upset with how my company is handling my leave time. I understand I might be in the wrong in some case but… I’m just trying to provide… Been working at (your local massive retail chain) for about 10 years. Started as a deli worker making minimum and have worked my way to doing call center work (better then a normal call center) I have been an operator for about…5years? I was a manager for the grave yard team for 2 of them. We are the only department in the entire company that does what we do, so I know my team very well. Up till now I would have bent over back wards… Fiancé (27f) and I (28m) are about to have out 3rd boy here…
A Wage Haiku
You don’t pay enough To have high expectations Of your employees. * They do not owe you More loyalty or effort Than you pay them for. * Excellence is bought Through great pay and benefits Not your great “culture.” * Thank you.
I never had this happen to me before, but I’m quitting after only working here 2 weeks. Everyone is miserable and the job isn’t anything that they made it seem. Feels like you are expected to be a human robot and only goal is not not make any errors. It’s not that I can’t handle it, it’s just not for me. Within the time working there I have already seen other departments threaten us by “telling on us” to upper management if we make another mistake. It’s just a toxic work environment. Their too cheap to even replace scanners that keep jamming and barely can get an ink cartridge. Anyone else work in bank operations before? I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels this way.
