Unpaid sick days are just as useless as not getting any days at all.

I am in Canada so the typical response is that we should be “grateful” for getting days off at all just because our downstairs neighbor has set the bar so damn low with the norm there being no sick days at all. But this mindset is just absurd. Currently, I am sitting at my desk with a full blown cold in an office full of people. I sit right next to a young woman who is almost bursting at the seams she is so pregnant and I feel like the biggest ass because I fear I am going to get her sick, let alone all the other people in the office. However, I can't avoid this because my only other option is to take an UNPAID day off work to stay home sick. In this current economic climate, that is literally impossible for me to do. Do I get groceries…

The fact that we still live in a world where this is the accepted norm blows my mind as much as I have to blow my nose. Which is alot right now.
Just so unbelievably frustrated at the moment and needed to rant.
